CNN reported on Nate Haasis, a record-setting high school quarterback with loads of talent and character. His parents must have taught him that he is something even more special off the field. Too bad his coach–who made a deal with the opposing coach during a timeout so Nate could set a record without any defensive effort from the opponent–could not model the strength of character most coaches talk about.
From the AP (excerpt):
“While I admittedly would like to have passed the record, as I think most high school quarterbacks would, I am requesting that the Central State Eight does not include this pass in the record books,” Haasis wrote.
Hassis said the yardage he passed for in his career “required a lot of cooperation and hard work from my teammates. I do not wish to diminish the accomplishments that were made in the last three years.”
Indeed, a son to be proud of!
This thing is getting way to blown out of proportion! It should NOT be national news!
With due respect to Jon, I feel that Nate Haasis is a real roll model for his contemporaries and that the accord he received for his refusal to accept a tainted award is noteworthy country-wide. My best wishes are extended to Nate for his outstanding character.
