Jane Straus provided her comments on Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon, Hilary Swank and Chad Lowe, Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson, Paul McCartney and Heather Mills, Charlie Sheen and Denise Richards, and Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger. The lessons include these principles:
1. Bite your tongue “until time has had a chance to help [you] heal.”
2. There is a “hard-won wisdom” that flows from handling agony with grace.
3. Focus on your child’s well-being.
4. “[I]t is a slippery slope from privilege to entitlement.”
5. “[A]gree to keep [your] communications private, [and let everyone] know that [your child] comes first.”
6. “[Perhaps a necessary evil, sometimes, a court] battle shows concern for their children.”
