OJ’s “I Did It” propels “If I Did It”

As a psychologist, I’ve done hundreds of assessments for men who batter.  When I determine after careful discernment of the data presented that a particular man has a problem with abusive behavior, one personality factor speaks loudly.  Men who batter lack empathy.  A close friend of mine who was raped once said, “If he knew what he was doing to my soul, he couldn’t have done it”.

O.J. Simpson’s willingness to author a “fictional” account of “If I Did It” with respect to the murder of his ex-wife Nichole Brown Simpson, is just another indicator of his immense lack of empathy and respect for the deceased mother of his children.  This is just another act of it being “all about O.J.”  He continues to be immersed in the victim mentality, responding with heartless self-aggrandizement.  If he truly didn’t do it, he couldn’t write a fictional account and then grandstand with the media.  A person who has the character to kill while pretending to be the victim is the same kind of person who can write a fictional account of killing his ex-partner.

Scott Peck discusses evil in his book The People of the Lie.  He explains that evil is alive when people believe they are doing something innocent and moral, yet are actually committing great acts of destruction upon others.  This is in contrast to those who hurt others out of their brokenness while working at restoration of character and relationships.  O.J. simply commits another act of destruction perpetuating hurt and pain to others and the degradation of his character.  If he knew what he was doing, he wouldn’t be able to do it.  O.J. is drowning in his shameless narcissism.  We as a society, including media and publishing companies, need to make sure we don’t jump in the cesspool with him.
