Joseph W. Cunningham

Joseph W. Cunningham of Plante & Moran, LLP, Southfield, Michigan, practices in the area of accounting. He is both a lawyer and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He is an expert witness on tax, financial, and valuation matters. Mr. Cunningham has served three three-year terms on the Family Law Council of the State Bar of Michigan Family Law Section and has been chairperson of its Taxation Committee since 1984. He is a frequent writer and lecturer on tax, pension, and valuation matters as they relate to divorce. His other professional memberships include several local bar associations, the Michigan Association of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, the American Society of Appraisers, and the American Bar Association. He has served for many years as a member of the American Bar’s Domestic Relations Tax Problems Committee and writes a monthly column called “Tax Trends and Developments” for the “Michigan Family Law Journal.” Mr. Cunningham is a frequent speaker for ICLE and a contributor to several ICLE publications, including “Michigan Family Law” (5th ed 1998 & Cum Supp) and “QDROs, EDROs & Division of Employee Benefits on Divorce” (2d ed 2002 & Cum Supp).
