Domestic Diversions

The Detroit Free Press said it best in the words of Dawson Bell and L.L. Braisier (excerpt):

In one of the most bizarre events in recent Michigan political history, Attorney General Mike Cox announced Wednesday he had an extramarital affair and accused the state’s most famous attorney, Geoffrey Fieger, of threatening to expose him unless Cox dropped an investigation into Fieger’s alleged violation of campaign-finance laws.

[NOTE: Cox and Fieger both intended to pursue their party’s nominations for Attorney General in the 2006 election. If the either or both of the above allegations are true (and the adultery allegation–a crime under Michigan law–has already been admitted), that person may be guilty of a crime. The other candidate is attorney and former district judge Scott Bowen.]
