Backup Your Office Data

We all know that tape backup systems can be expensive, time consuming to administer, and notoriously finicky. Some form of on-site backup is still a good idea (whether it be tape, external hard drives, or other removable media). But on-site backup is no longer adequate given the possibility of fire, theft, natural disaster, or terrorist attack. On-site backup should be supplemented by on-line backups that encrypt your data and send it off-site via the internet to a secure location.
I researched the available on-line backup services and found one that is reasonably priced for small law firms and easy to use. It is from a company called BackUp Solutions. Simply download the software, install and configure it one time, and rest assured that your data is being encrypted for security and backed up over the internet to the fully protected servers at BackUp Solutions. Of course, you will need a high-speed internet connection (cable or DSL, but you should have that already for all of the other benefits it provides). Full or partial restores of your files can be done with just a few mouse clicks.
As lawyers, we should be concerned about confidentiality. Because no data leaves your office until it is encrypted, this on-line solution is far more secure than leaving physical backup media (tapes, CD’s, removable hard drives) laying around your office (or home or car) where any0ne could walk away with them.
BackUp Solutions offers a 15 day free trial of this service. To take advantage of this free trial, to subscribe to one of our low-cost backup plans, or for more information, click here.
