The New York Times highlights Roberta Beary’s haiku and Frank Stella’s reflection.
Kathryn Shattuck writes (excerpt):
On the eve of the wedding, Mr. Stella reflected on marriages past and pending, and on the memories of being abandoned by his father at 8 that had clouded much of his adulthood. “I think it took me a long time to get on with my life,” he said. “Certainly I’m bringing a much more mature commitment to this relationship. You have to be very smart to realize you have to put as much nurturing in your relationship with your spouse as you do with the kids.”
Yes, marraige is an ongoing commitment that takes time. It is easy to let everyone else get the attention just assuming that relationship will be there until it is too late.
