Hoping to make a difference in a child’s life

The Macomb Daily recognizes the work of Christine B. Antoskiewicz, an “institution in Macomb County.” Antoskiewicz retired as program director for the juvenile division of Macomb Probate Court after working more than 40 years for the county. She started as a probation officer in 1964 and worked in supervisory positions before being elevated to program director. In 1993, Antoskiewicz was recognized for her advocacy on behalf of children and awarded the Alexander Macomb Citizen of the Year Award.

Chad Halcom wirtes (excerpt):
“It sounds very simple, and it may not seem like much,” Antoskiewicz said. “But anyone who comes into a job like this working with children always hopes there’s at least one life out there where you made a difference. It meant I had my one, and I hope obviously that there were many more.”

She likened the myriad children and teens who pass through the court system to having children of her own.

“Kids keep you young,” she said. “You see, they’re all new, they’re growing and learning, and their world is expandable. They … ask very little of us in this profession, just that you listen and you express care.”
