The Grand Rapids Press ran an article on an elderly woman who was not receiving her alimony checks due to the conversion to MiSDU, Michigan’s new state disbursement unit. She is not the only one experiencing problems, and more problems no doubt will be coming.
The Press explained (excerpt):
Counties have been converting to the new system in regional groups since February. The last of Michigan’s 83 counties converted Oct. 1.
Benefits of the new system are said to be increased automation, shared information and improved communication among 2,500 workers in Friend of the Court offices, prosecuting attorneys and the Family Independence Agency.
The FIA, which oversees the state’s support system, contracted the private contractor ACS, to establish and run MiSDU. ACS also runs centralized disbursement units in 10 other states.
The MiSDU system handles all data relating to intake, paternity and order establishment, payment processing and disbursement and support enforcement.
Do I get something from the state to file my taxes. The amount of alimony I recieved to file my taxes???
