This article is great. It repeats a lot of the advice we give our clients. In a custody or visitation case, it's too easy to show that a parent who is really being kept out of the loop could simply have been more proactive. When a client knows next to nothing about the child's school and has never met the teachers, it doesn't sound terribly convincing that the reason is the other parent didn't hand over the report cards on time. It's relatively easy to get involved in these issues, and it can have a big payoff in court. Even more importantly, the non-custodial parent is more involved in the child's life, and that is almost always a win-win situation.
