Changing your name after divorce

The Social Security Administration shows divorced persons who have a prior name restored how to ensure proper credits:
If you change your name, be sure to tell us. And tell your employer about your name change, too. Correcting your records now means you’ll get the right benefits when you apply for Social Security. The corrected card shows your new name and the same number as your previous card. And it’s free.
