At the end of suffering, of mystery

The Grand Rapids Press shows how a moment of kindness can affect profound changes in another person.

Ted Roelofs writes (excerpt):
Sitting in a court hearing in January 2002, Cheryl Orean abruptly crumpled to the floor, her body twitching in a seizure brought on by years of addiction to prescription drugs.

Orean came to a few minutes later and looked up to see Kent County Circuit Judge Kathleen Feeney standing over her. Feeney talked about her own trials with her daughter, Anna Stuive, who suffered seizures and died from a rare metabolic disease before she turned 2.

Unknown to the judge, her words that day stirred something in Orean.

“It just made me want to prove to this woman that I could do it,” Orean said.
